The first step in making wine is choosing and growing the variant of grape that you will use to make the beverage. This may seem like a no brainer but any experienced winemaker will tell you that this is the most crucial and important step in creating a beverage that can be cherished for generations or simply throw away with the week’s garbage. It all boils down to the type of grape used, the level of nurturing that has gone into growing them as well as the soil and the weather conditions in the area where it was cultivated.
It is a known fact in the winemaking world that the correct ripeness or maturity of the grape is crucial in making marvelous wines. Harvesting is the next basic step towards making wine. If they are harvested too early then they might not have the correct consistency needed to create a fine tasting wine. The same is true if they have been left to over ripen because all the essential flavors would have been lost and what you will have are wines that have no balance at all.
The third step in how wine is made is fermentation.
